Are you experiencing pregnancy symptoms such as a missed period, tender/swollen breasts, nausea with or without vomiting, increased urination, or fatigue? If so, it’s important to take a pregnancy test.

We are here to help you better understand how pregnancy tests work and what’s next for you.

How Do Pregnancy Tests Work?

Pregnancy tests are really simple to take. They work by detecting the amount of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your body. The most common type of pregnancy test, and the type typically done for pregnancy, is urine-based.

If you already received a positive home pregnancy test result, always follow up with another test with a professional to be sure of your results. There is always a chance for error if the test was taken at the wrong time or you accidentally skipped a step.

When To Take A Pregnancy Test

Timing is key when taking a pregnancy test. The Mayo Clinic shares that the best time to take a pregnancy test is at least one day after your missed period for the most accurate results.

The time of day is important, too. Take a pregnancy test first thing when you wake up, as your urine is most concentrated at this time of the day.
